Bacon and cheese savouries

I always pick these when I go to the bakery, they’re just what you need the morning after the night before – Salty, savoury and fatty! You can whip these up in about half an hour including cooking time, and you can make a batch and freeze them for when you need something savoury and only bacon will do! Just make up until cooking point and freeze raw, add 10 mins to the cooking time.


2 x 13cm x 13cm squares Puff pastry – I use ready rolled for convenience, but roll out to around 2-3 mm thick if using a block

30g (about 1/8) finely chopped onion

1/2 tsp pepper

2 x rashers streaky bacon

30g cheddar cheese

1/4 tsp paprika

4 slices tomato

1 egg beaten


Start by preheating a baking tray in the oven at 180 fan

First brush your pastry squares with egg

Place half the onion on each square on a diagonal

Sprinkle with pepper

Lay on the bacon

Add half the cheese on each one

Sprinkle with paprika

Place the tomatoes on top

Fold up the opposite corners of the pastry and press the corners together. Brush with egg

Place onto the heated baking tray and bake for 20 mins

I think you’ll agree, this recipe is so easy and so worth it. Admittedly not for every day but so tasty you’ll want to make them all the time!
